Born in 1994

I grew up in a farm house in Shepherd, Michigan for most of my life with my three younger brothers and my parents. I was never interested in dance until my mom asked if I wanted to take ballet and tap lessons, given that my brother was very interested. I said sure, why not, figuring that if I didn't like it I could always quit. I've been hooked since.

I stopped dancing after high school and went to Central Michigan University to study graphic design and photography. I took a few classes here and there, and I continued to teach at the studio I grew up at, teaching young beginner dance classes. Halfway through my studies at Central, I realized that while I loved graphic design, I love dance more. I felt that I could have a bigger impact and help more people with dance than I could with design, and I transferred to Alma College. Transferring was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

While at Alma College I received training from Kristen Bennett, Ben Munisteri, Crystal Fullmer, and Lynn Bowman. I performed in three concerts in my two years of attendance (only missing one due to surgery), and I had the opportunity to choreograph for the student choreography concert my senior year. I cherish the friendships and connections I made through Alma College, and my only regret is not going sooner.

In 2020, I was accepted into Saint Mary’s of California’s MFA Dance program, and in January 2023 I was granted candidacy. This means that I am in the midst of my thesis research, diving deep into the world of bodily autonomy and restoring the bodymind. After graduation, I will pursue a career in higher education. I’m excited to share my research with the next generation of dance scholars, and hope to continue researching the bodymind and it’s relation to the neurodivergent brain.
